Organic Movements assesses draft proposal for a revision of the organic farming Regulation as gravely inadequate

Brussels, 20th of February 2006 - On the occasion of the 3rd General Assembly of the IFOAM EU Group, which took place before the organic trade fair Biofach (16. - 19.2. 2006) in Nuremberg, Germany, the Assembly decided on the following declaration:

Declaration of the IFOAM EU Group General Assembly

“The 3rd General Assembly of the IFOAM EU Group, representing 330 member organisations in the EU, EFTA and Accession countries, held at Biofach on 15th February 2006, assesses the draft proposal for a revision of Regulation no. (EEC) 2092/91 as gravely inadequate. Further, there is an extremely tight timescale and there is insufficient participation of the stakeholders. The eventual outcome of this process risks resulting in serious damage to the prospects for European organic food and farming in the future. We call urgently on the Council and the Commission to rectify this.”
