MUNDUSvini BioFach International Organic Wine Award enters the second round

Entry possible until 29 October 2010

Tasting on 9–10 December 2010 in Neustadt on the Wine Road

The starting shot for the MUNDUSvini BioFach International Organic Wine Award 2011 has been fired: producers and importers can now enter their organic wines for the competition. Following the successful debut of the wine competition organized by MUNDUSvini/Meininger Verlag and BioFach, the World Organic Trade Fair, everyone concerned is looking forward to the second edition.

“We have cooperated closely with MUNDUSvini and Meininger Verlag for the organization of the MUNDUSvini BioFach International Organic Wine Award since BioFach2010. The successful premiere has confirmed that we have made the right decision. The international jury awarded altogether 220 medals to wines from the over 600 entries, including 5 Special Gold, 70 Gold and 145 Silver. The combination of the exhibition know-how of BioFach and the wine expertise of our partner Meininger Verlag also promises a top tasting session and a real gain for the organic wine presentation at the next edition of the world’s leading exhibition in 2011,” says Alexander Stein, who is also responsible for the wine segment in the BioFach and Vivaness team.
Christoph Meininger, Chief Executive Officer of MUNDUSvini and Meininger Verlag, is also confident: “The organic sector is booming and the wine segment too. The market for organic wines is growing and is becoming less and less transparent. An award in a competition like the MUNDUSvini BioFach International Organic Wine Award, in which independent experts judge the quality of the wines based on the recognized standards of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), is therefore a key indicator – for producers and consumers.”

The samples entered will be tasted by an international jury of noted and experienced tasting specialists from all over the world on 9–10 December 2010 in Neustadt on the Wine Road. The judging is based on a 100-points system involving smell, taste and an individual scoring system using the sampling tables of the OIV and the International Union of Oenologists (UIŒ). The winners are decided by a joint decision of the jury. In line with the OIV rules, the number of awards is limited to maximum 30per cent of the samples entered. The best wines receive “Special Gold”, “Gold” and “Silver” awards.
The presentation of the awards takes place at BioFach in the NürnbergMesse exhibition centre in February.

Eligible for entry are still wines, sparkling wines, perl wines and liqueur wines from organic cultivation with a number issued by an organic certification body. The deadline for sending samples is 29 October 2010.
