China: Newcomer as BioFach country

China will be one of the key players in the world market for organic food and natural products in future. This can be concluded from the enormous growth rates presented by the People’s Republic last year. Of the some 31 million hectares of organically farmed land in the world, China meanwhile accounts for about 3.5 million hectares according to the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), which means China has moved up to second place behind Australia. Altogether five million more hectares (+ 20 %) of certified organic land were added throughout the world in 2005.

Nürnberg Global Fairs recognized the enormous potential for the organic industry in China and set up a network there at an early stage. BioFach China is being implemented in time for the organic agriculture boom in China. Seminars have already been held in China in preparation for the exhibition at the end of May 2007. The first international BioFach China Conference in the Shanghai Worldfield Convention Center on 1-2 December 2006 takes place under the motto of “Organic Market Development in China”. The current conference programme has been available for downloading from the BioFach China home page since the beginning of November.
