BioFach Japan 2013: organic sector continues to look ahead

The international organic sector met in the Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Centre from 31 October to 2 November, when 15,078 trade visitors sourced information from 188 organic companies from all over the world at the 13th BioFach Japan. Besides Japan, a total of 19 other nations showed organic products and natural cosmetics. The Philippines were present in a pavilion for the first time. The professional audience experienced the island state’s whole organic variety from the 11 co-exhibitors. In line with the motto “Organic is our future!” there was also a new area where exclusively organic products for children were presented.

Toshifumi Ayukawa, Managing Director of Space Media Japan Company, which organizes the event on the ground in cooperation with NürnbergMesse, is satisfied with the course of BioFach Japan 2013: “The visitors value the only Japanese trade fair for organic products and natural cosmetics, which is why they spent even more time on the stands this year and very accurately gathered information on the individual products. The Japanese organic sector is developing very slowly but steadily. Many people have changed their lifestyle and eating habits in the past years. Organic food, natural cosmetics and eco-textiles are attracting the interest of the population. This was also noticeable at BioFach Japan 2013.”

Mariya Korkmaz, Project Coordinator NürnbergMesse, adds: “The halls were well filled during the whole opening time of this year’s BioFach Japan. Many new exhibitors presented their products and the opportunities for contact were used excellently.” The Cosmetic Parlour, in which 26 Japanese and international natural cosmetics companies showed their products, was also popular this time. Here visitors not only received information about the individual products, but could also try them out on the spot. Those primarily looking for innovative organic and natural cosmetic products found them on the Novelty Stand, where altogether 52 products were presented.

Seminar programme supplemented the trade fair

Besides the trade fair, this year’s BioFach Japan again provided a varied and informative seminar programme. The speakers included Chieko Watanabe, Managing Director of Avanti Japan, who discussed the effect of synthetic fibres on the human body and explained why organic cotton and other ecological natural fibres are healthier materials. Yukio Hattori, Japanese star chef and president of the renowned “Hattori Nutrition College” in Tokyo, has given presentations on organic food and health awareness for many years. He gave an exciting report on his work in informing children and young people.
