NürnbergMesse North America acquires InterBev

New organizer for the US beverage industry’s high-profile event

North American subsidiary of NürnbergMesse further expands its portfolio

The next InterBev will be held in October 2012 in Las Vegas/Nevada. Organization of the event is being handled by NürnbergMesse North America, a subsidiary of NürnbergMesse. At InterBev 2012, some 300 well-known exhibitors will present an attractive range of innovative soft drinks and water products. Among them are the market-leading manufacturers and bottlers of refreshment drinks, juices, waters and energy drinks. Beverage raw materials, packaging, logistics, and marketing will round it out. The organizers expect around 3,000 visitors from the North American beverage industry in the areas of purchasing, production, and sales.

“We acquired InterBev from the American Beverage Association (ABA). They will support InterBev with their industry knowledge,” explained Dirk Ebener, CEO and Director of NürnbergMesse North America, Atlanta, Georgia. “A major partner with deep industry knowledge plus the trade show expertise of NürnbergMesse North America give this strategic development of InterBev great potential for success. For the 2012 show, we plan to add tea and mixed milk beverages to the product scope.”

The first InterBev took place in 1920 in the middle of Prohibition, and showcased alcohol-free beverages. Over the course of the decades, the ABA has entrusted organization of the event to various companies. Today, InterBev is well established on the North American market. It is held every two years, at different locations up until now, and has been most successful in Las Vegas. InterBev is where the industry meets to see beverage trends and innovations, to network, and to learn from others.

The accompanying congress program is ideal for this. It is largely designed by the ABA. Events like the InterBev Beverage Innovation Awards and special presentations, like the ones recently held on beverage innovations, sustainability, logistics, and storage, give exhibitors and attendees added value.

The NürnbergMesse North America team is proud of this latest addition to its trade show portfolio, the second this year. InterBev is an ideal fit for the NürnbergMesse Group, which has been at home in the beverage market since the late 70s. In November of this year, Brau Beviale in Nuremberg will be the world’s most important equipment show for the industry, with around 1,300 exhibitors and some 32,000 attendees. “One thing’s for sure,” added Dirk Ebener, “We’ll take a good look around at BrauBeviale this year!” And probably not just there – the Nuremberg Congress Center is a rewarding destination in many ways. For the organic beverage market, for example, there is BioFach, the World Organic Trade Fair, in February 2012. FachPack, one of the most important European packaging shows, will offer much of interest in September, including beverage packaging and packaging logistics.

The contact between ABA and NürnbergMesse North America was made by Wolfgang Schellkes, CEO of Fair Relations GmbH, long a cooperation partner of NürnbergMesse Group.

The world’s unending thirst

Over 920 billion liters of packaged beverages were drunk in 2010, a good third of it in the Americas. Water tops the list of most popular non-alcoholic beverage with 214 billion liters, followed by carbonated soft drinks (208 billion liters, over half of which is drunk in the US alone), milk and mixed milk beverages (150 billion liters), juices (67 billion liters) and energy drinks (50 billion liters). Alcoholic beverages account for about a fourth of worldwide consumption at 234 billion liters, with beer in the lead at 186 billion liters. Experts calculate that the world consumption of packaged beverages is growing by 3% per year, and 2% in the Americas (Euromonitor).
